Iwartelsus
A video call platform that lets people in Indonesian correctional facilities stay in touch with their families — through secure kiosks, a family app, and a backoffice for officers.
Get it on Google Play ↗Iwartelsus runs inside correctional facilities, so operational numbers, locations and call video are hidden.
The challenge
Visiting family in a correctional facility often means long trips, travel costs, and limited visiting hours. Facilities wanted to offer remote calls, but only in a way that stays secure: every caller must be identified, every call recorded and billed, and the devices inmates use must not be usable for anything else.
How it works
-
Sign in at the kiosk
An inmate signs in on a locked-down tablet with a PIN or face recognition.
-
Call family
They dial a registered family member, paid per second from a prepaid balance.
-
Family answers
The call rings on the family's Android or iOS app like a normal phone call.
-
Recorded & monitored
Every call is recorded, and officers can watch active calls live from the backoffice.
What we built
Locked-down kiosk
Tablets locked to approved apps only. Inmates sign in with PIN or face recognition, dial on a large numpad, and see their balance and remaining time during the call.
Family app
Android and iOS apps for families — sign up with a phone number or Google, receive calls like a normal phone call, and keep talking in picture-in-picture.
Officer backoffice
Watch calls live, review recordings, set call rates per location, and set up new kiosks straight from the browser — including pushing app updates remotely.
Recording & billing
Every call is recorded for compliance and billed per second from a prepaid balance. When the balance runs out, the call ends automatically.
